It is not necessary to be a good pool player in order to participate. The Pool Tournament is a fun way for “celebrities” and members of the public to have brief meetings over a game of pool. Ticket sales are based on this element of the evening and along with the musical entertainment. Proceeds will benefit Spirit of the Sage Council’s biodiversity projects -- protecting and defending endangered species, habitats and Native American sacred lands.

There will be 20 pool tables with games going on from 7-11PM.
The pool game for the evening is called Single Elimination Cut-Throat with winner playoff eliminations. Three players to a table (1 celebrity and 2 paying players). Each player has five balls that they must get in the holes first in order to win. This means that the games move quickly, approximately 15mins in length.

Celebrity players never lose to the playing guests…
at least not officially, because they are needed to stay at the pool tables. Paying players that win the first game will then play a second game, against other winners. Winners from the second will have their names entered into the Grand Prize drawing.

Celebrities will have their scores kept and calculated throughout the night -- wins and losses. The top four celebrity players will be announced at the end of the night (12:00 midnight) when the Grand Prize drawing takes place. Special Prize goes to the “high score” Celebrity Pool Player and top four celebrities will have their names entered into the Grand Prize Drawing along with the other top players.
The upcoming Earth Day Celebration & Celebrity Pool Tournament is anticipated to be the #1 Earth Day event in the Los Angeles area. It is designed to be fun, yet at the same time educational in regards to the media coverage being the vehicle to distribute information regarding loss of biodiversity, endangered species, urban sprawl and what steps the public can take to help the environment.

Having “celebrities,” from the television, film, radio, fashion and sports, at an Earth Day event always attracts media coverage to pressing environmental issues. As you may be aware, the media is always looking for an Earth Day story event to cover -- sometimes it’s a tree planting event by children or a local festival. We believe that the Sage Council’s Earth Day benefit at Q’s Billiards in Pasadena will be the big event for the media in Los Angeles.

The LA Weekly is one of our many sponsors.

To date the event is being supported by Mr. Edward Asner who is our honorary chairman and a tentative participating pool player. There will be 20 “celebrities” playing pool throughout the night with paying guests.
